Sony Xperia XZ hands-on: A beautiful new Android phone
I had a chance to swing by the Sony booth during IFA 2016 to check out the Sony Xperia XZ, the more exciting of two new smartphones introduced by Sony during the show. Sony’s trying to create the best smartphone camera experience with this phone, thanks to new sensor technology, but the jury is still out on how well it’ll perform
The good news is it’s a damn nice-looking and feeling device. I loved the dark navy-blue hue of one of the units I played with on the show floor, which you can see in the gallery above. On one hand, I dig that Sony has stuck with its beloved design language. On the other, I think it’s time the company tries something new. The devices introduced back during Mobile World Congress seem to have flopped in markets like the U.S., where they often launch many months after the announcement and at noncompetitive prices.
I hope that changes this time around. The Snapdragon 820 chip and 23MP camera may be compelling now, but if these phones hit the U.S. a few months from now, when new technologies are already on the market, then Sony won’t be doing itself any favors.
Check out a closer look in the gallery above.
