amsung Z2 is a new 4G enabled smartphone based on the Korean tech company’s own Tizen operating systems. With the new Z2, Samsung is planning to tap into the 550 million odd users who are still on feature phones and get them to upgrade to a better smartphone experience. Hence the phone is priced at a very competitive Rs 4,590 and will be among the most affordable 4G smartphones in the market.
Samsung also seems to be pushing the phone as part of the Reliance Jio roll out expected in the coming months and apps from the new telecom service will be pre-loaded in the phone. The phone will also support VoLTE-based video calling as well as OTG updates. The Z2 will add to the 22 4G smartphones Samsung has in the market at the moment.
The phone will offer a MyMoneyTransfer app that offers mobile banking and money transfer even without data. This app has been developed by the Samsung R&D team in India. The phone also supports 12 Indian languages. Since Samsung perceives this as the first smartphone for many users, there will be a smart tutor inside to guide them. The phone offers 40 per cent data saving and the popular S-Bike mode, both Made-for-India features.
The 4-inch smartphone has a 5MP rear camera with LED flash. It has a 1.5GHz processor with 1GB RAM. The 8GB internal storage is can be upgraded to 128GB. The battery is 1,500mAh.
Samsung launched its Tizen-based Z3 smartphone in India last year. The smartphone was announced at Rs 8,490 with Tizen OS being the highlight of the device. Samsung Z3 features a 5-inch super AMOLED display with 720p resolution. The Z3 is powered by 1.3GHz quad-core Spreadtrum processor coupled with 1GB RAM and 8 GB ROM (expandable up to 128GB).
